GAME DAY RECAP: December 10-12, 2024

Ontario Hockey Academy (3) vs Kuper Academy (8) East U17

Malkin Pierre (2G, 1A) and Kareem Baig-Mirza (1G, 2A) scored 35 seconds apart midway through the first as Kuper grabbed a 2-0 lead. Amir Makdad (2G) and Aadi Patel (1G, 1A) added second period goals to double the lead heading into the third. Pierre and Makdad scored early in the third as Kuper held a commanding 6-0 advantage. Oliver Janac would get OHA on the board 20 seconds later, but Kuper responded with a Michael Paliotti (2G, 3A) marker 26 seconds after that. Elliott Sullivan (2G) and Paliotti traded goals two minutes apart midway through the third, with Sullivan adding a late consolation goal to round out the scoring. 

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (2) vs Edge School (7) U18 Prep

Backed by a four goal first period Edge defeated Pilot Mound 7-2. Brock England (1G, 3A), Keegan De Sa, Joaquin Geras and Mirco Dufour (2G, 1A) all scored in a seven minute span in the first as Edge grabbed a 4-0 lead. Dufour would add another 1:50 into the second while on the power play. Briggs Olson would get Pilot Mound on the board late in the second with a power play goal of his own but it was quickly countered by an Ethan Elefante power play marker. William Picklyk (1G, 1A) and Dallin Antos (1G, 2A) traded third period goals to round out the scoring. Ryley Budd (13/15) made 13 saves, including one on a Austin Polonoski penalty shot, to earn the win. Aiden Trapp (47/54) faced 54 shots in the loss. 

Northern Alberta Xtreme (3) vs Calgary International Hockey Academy (5) U15

After overtaking NAX for the second spot in the MYHockey Rankings earlier in the day, CIHA came out to prove they were willing of that number two seed as Aiden Brown (1G, 1A) scored 22 seconds in. Jared Ryan would tie the game shortly after but goals from Eric Sexton and Joyesh Ghosh (2G) 43 seconds apart put CIHA ahead 3-1. Ghosh and Luke Van Waes (1G, 1A) would score 10 minutes apart in the second to increase their lead to four heading into the final 20. Mohamed Garcia would score shorthanded and Jett Evans (1G, 2A) added his 20th of the season as NAX looked to make a late comeback bid. But Taylor Green (37/40) ultimately finished with 37 saves as CIHA beat NAX 5-3. 

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (2) vs Calgary International Hockey Academy (10) U18 Prep

William Picklyk gave Pilot Mound a 1-0 lead 1:25 in but Zane Rains (3G) countered 1:22 later to kick-start a run of six straight for CIHA as they went on to earn a 10-2 win. Jack Coughlan (1G, 4A) led all skaters with five points while Calder Hutt (3A), Oliver Kramp (1G, 2A) and defenseman Xander Ramsay (3A) chipped in with three points each. Cole Prelusky (24/26) made 24 saves for the win. Jaden Mah scored the other Pilot Mound goal and Tait Sanchez (58/68) faced 68 shots in the loss. 

Bishop’s College School (4/SO) vs Ulysse Academie (3) East U18

Tristan Gagnon (1G, 1A) scored the lone first period goal as Bishop’s led 1-0 after 20. Zack Bernique tied the game 11 seconds into the second and Cedrick Fortin gave Ulysse the lead 1:15 later. Adam Straka and Zach Jockers would score goals five minutes apart to put Bishop’s back on top heading into the third. Marc Yankov (1G, 1A) tallied his second goal of the season 1:27 into the third to tie the game and eventually force a shootout. Timofey Williams (21/24) would stop all four Ulysse shooters and Nathan Birch beat Virgil Sausset (26/29) in the fourth round to give Bishop’s the 4-3 win. 

Notre Dame (4) vs Indigenous Sports Academy (3) U17 Prep

Jesse Schaefer opened the scoring for Notre Dame 7:39 into the game with his second goal of the season. Kaythin Mirasty and Hudson Albert countered for ISA with unassisted goal 4:50 apart. Notre Dame would take the lead in the second as Joe Watson and Lewis Brown each scored their fourth goals of the season. Carter Perrault would tie the game 5:29 into the third with his first goal of the season. Notre Dame would avoid overtime as Maksim Bedskikh (1G, 1A) scored his eighth of the season with 6:54 remaining to give his team a 4-3 win. Jessy Cormier (38/41) and Jacob Appleby (37/41) each faced 41 shots in net for their respective teams. 

South Alberta Hockey Academy (4) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (5/SO) U18 Prep

Tucker Robertson (1G, 1A) scored just 22 seconds in and Simon Cecconi (1G, 1A) added his eighth of the season 4:22 later as OHA grabbed a 2-0 lead less than five minutes in. Ty Wasyluk and Owen Brees (1G, 1A) would counter for SAHA, scoring 2:08 apart to tie the game midway through the first. Jacob Davidson would restore the OHA lead 2:04 into the second though Kingston Chisholm replied midway through the period. Jackson Roberts put OHA ahead once again midway through the third, but once again SAHA would have an answer as Ty Hynes (1G, 1A) found the back of the net on the power play with 2:06 remaining. After OT solved nothing, Eli Tverdovsky and Cecconi both beat Mattias Radke (36/40) and Ben Hakes (29/33) stopped two of the three SAHA shooters as OHA grabbed a 5-4 win.

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (4) vs Delta Hockey Academy (7) U18 Prep

Ryder Dunn (2G) and Jacob Schwartz (2G, 2A) would score 1:32 apart midway through the first to give Delta a 2-0 lead. Pilot Mound would counter just 23 seconds later as William L’Heureux (2G) scored his first goal of the season. Affiliate Dylan Hurren would start the second with a goal 4:07 into the second while Schwartz and Cruz Waltze (1G, 2A) added goals 4:25 apart. Having gone his previous 20 games without a goal, L’Heureux would find the back of the net for the second time in the contest 47 seconds after Waltze to cut into the deficit. Brenden Reeve and Asher Gingras (1G, 2A) would bring Pilot Mound within one just 3:18 into the final frame. Nathaniel Danielson (1G, 3A) would double the Delta lead three minutes later with a power play goal and Dunn would add an empty netter in the final minute to secure the 7-4 win. Asher Thornton (34/38) made 34 saves for the win.
