85 current and 4 former Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) student-athletes were selected at the 2026 Western Hockey League (WHL) Prospects Draft last week.
Overall, 12 CSSHL student-athletes were selected in the first round while 85 players were selected in total at the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft. Of those 85, 44 were taken in the first 4 rounds/92 picks. Overall, 41% of the WHL Draft came from the CSSHL, the second highest percentage total in league history, behind only the 2021 (45%) draft.
Last year a total of 273 prospects were selected between the WHL Prospects Draft and WHL US Priority Draft. With the WHL scrapping the WHL US Priority Draft due to the recent NCAA changes, the total number of players selected this season dropped to 206. However, the CSSHL’s total of 85 remained right on pace with the previous three drafts, with 84 CSSHL student-athletes selected in 2025 and 2023, and 88 selected in 2024.
145 2011 born players who played in Canadian leagues this season were selected at the 2026 WHL Draft, with 59% of those players honing their skills in the CSSHL this season. 59 of the remaining 61 players played in the US, while a 2007 and 2009 born player were also selected.
16 of the 18 CSSHL U15 Prep teams saw at least one student-athlete selected at this years draft.
