The Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) has announced a partnership with the Canadian Centre for Mental Health and Sport (CCMHS).
CCMHS will provide online training sessions to CSSHL member program team staff through the CCMHS Workshop Trilogy:
- Maximizing Coach Potential through the Power of the Mental Triad
- Powering Coach Wellness and Performance through Self-Care
- Promoting the Power of Mental Health through Coaching Practice
“We are very excited to be partnering with the CCMHS, said CSSHL Chief Operating Officer Kevin Goodwin. “We feel their training courses are exactly what we were looking for to educate team staff within the CSSHL, and the topics that will be covered will be valuable information that can be used to better support all of the student-athletes in the CSSHL.”
Maximizing Coach Potential through the Power of the Mental Triad looks to enhance knowledge, skills and confidence related to the mental triad, while understanding the role of coaches in fostering mental health and mental performance, and preventing and coping with mental illness symptoms.
The objective of the Powering Coach Wellness and Performance through Self-Care workshop will be to enhance knowledge of self-care and wellness in the context of sport and general life, understand the risks and benefits associated with low and high self-care practices, and increase capacity to assess wellness and plan for self-care, and adapt strategies based on stressors and levels of functioning.
Promoting the Power of Mental Health through Coaching Practice strives to integrate mental health into the philosophy and practice of coaching, identify strategies to create psychologically healthy and safe training and competition environments, and increase capacity to create sound mental health action plans and address vulnerable periods in yearly training plan that can compromise mental health.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL). This collaboration allows us to extend our commitment to mental health education within the sport community, ensuring that coaches and staff have the knowledge and tools to support both their own well-being and that of their athletes,” added CCMHS Executive Director Natalie Durand-Bush. “Our Workshop Trilogy provides actionable strategies to foster a culture where mental health is as prioritized as physical health and performance.”
